Elliot Formation of South Africa
Most of my current field research focuses on understanding the dinosaur fauna of the Triassic-Jurassic Elliot Formation of South Africa and Lesotho. I spend about four weeks every year prospecting and digging for vertebrate fossils in amazing places like Clarens and the Barkly Pass. Training students in field techniques is a crucial part of my job. You can see some of my personal blog posts on Elliot Formation fieldwork at the following links: The "Murder Ranch" Daisies and Dinosaurs Skilderkrans |

Kirkwood Formation, South Africa
The Kirkwood Formation is the only Early Cretaceous terrestrial deposit in southern Africa, and it's where I did my first African fieldwork, together with Dr. Cathy Forster, Dr. BIlly de Klerk, and Karen Poole. I'm working there with Drs. Billy de Klerk and Rose Prevec of the Albany Museum, and Dr. Roger B. J. Benson of Oxford to see if we can discover more vertebrate fossils. |

Cynognathus subzone C, South Africa
Recently I've been working slightly lower in the stratigraphic column with my colleague Dr. Richard J. Butler to see if we can find some early archosaurs (or even the predecessors to dinosaurs!). Stay tuned for more results soon! |
